Qiyu Cai, Mehul Patel and Dom Wood, all 16, from Ralph Thoresby School in Adel, designed and built the innovative computer-operated NHS Smartcard testing rig in the classroom with support from an engineer at the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). Andy Smith, head of technology at Ralph Thoresby, said: “It’s been great for the students that have been involved. It has given them an opportunity to work with a live client, so they can grow in confidence and experience, and consider possible future career options.”
